Character Name: Molly Hayes
Canon source: Runaways (taking her from just after Secret Invasion)
Personality:Molly has seen a lot more than most kids her age, and even more than most people in general will ever have to. At just twelve years old she had to deal with finding out her parents were murderous supervillians, running away from home, discovering that she was a mutant, vampires, time travel, and much more. Because of this Molly has been forced to grow up in a lot of ways. She's had to learn to deal with death, pain, responsibility, and finding out that sometimes the bad guys are the people you trusted the most. Despite this maturity, and an insight that usually only comes with age Molly
is really just a kid. She likes to play games, gets emotional too easily, and is prone to pouting and name calling; for every worldly truth she understands there's something else she's naive about.
While Molly will play up the fact that she's a kid when its too her advantage (such as when she was captured by Alex's time displaced dad) in general she hates being treated like a child. As far as Molly is concerned the fact that she has super strength and invulnerability, the fact that she's part of the team, means that she should be allowed to play with the big boys when the time to fight comes around (whether she's twelve year old or not.) Part of this is due to Molly's idealization of superheroes (though that's slowly being broken down by actually
interacting with said heroes) and her desire to be a hero, but more of it is due to her extreme loyalty to her friends and her desire to prove herself. When Molly and the others ran away all they had was each other, and most days all they still have are each other. The other runaways aren't just her friends or her teammates, they're her family and she'll do anything to protect them. Along with her extreme loyalty comes extreme stubbornness too.
Molly can be almost too honest at times, her age combined with her unconventional upbringing as of late mean she doesn't always know when to stop talking. She never means to be hurtful though, and will usually apologize after she realizes she's said the wrong thing. That is if you haven't annoyed her or insulted those she considers family. While she is not so stubborn as to not forgive or give second chances to those who ask for them, if she feels like she or someone she loves has been wronged she will not make the first move in reconciliation.
History: What if your parents really were evil?Strengths: Molly is a mutant with super strength and invulnerability. It's been shown that she can lift around 100 tons (in the form of a skyscraper sized monster.)
Weaknesses: Using her powers has the disadvantage of quickly tiring Molly out. She will become incredibly drowsy and has more than once been known to just fall asleep on the spot after using her powers. This can be incredibly dangerous as her invulnerably only extends to when she's actually using her powers. It's been shown that Molly is not strong enough to punch through adamantium and she couldn't break through Mrs.Dean's energy bonds. Though it hasn't been strictly shown I'm also assuming she's vulnerable to magic.
In addition to this Molly tries not to use her powers on regular people. The last time she did everyone got mad at her because she could do some serious internal damage. In her defense though the Punisher had scared her and he is pretty big.
Preferred drop-in point: Manhattan
What are some of your plans for this character in their new environment?Well I definitely want her to interact with AU!Gert since that will be incredibly emotional for Molly. Her Gert has been dead for awhile now so it should be pretty interesting. Oh and she still owes Tommy a punch for leaving her and Klara at Mount Rushmore during the Skrull invasion, she hasn't forgotten about that one.
More than anything though Molly is at an interesting age developmentally and I would love to see how this new world ends up influence her development.
First Person Journal Sample:[It's a very annoyed looking twelve year old that's staring into the phone's camera.]
They took my hat.
[She pursed her lips harder.]
They took my clothes, and sprayed me with this gross stuff and it was
cold and they
took my freakin' hat. I don't know who brought me here but when I find out who did I'm gona punch their stupid face in.
[The threat doesn't seem particularly ominous coming from a twelve year old girl, but sudden pink glow of her eyes does help.]
Third Person Sample:Molly wasn't sure why she was back in New York, but what she was sure of was that she wasn't happy about it. They'd
finally been going back to L.A. and now she was back here in stinky old New York, and worst of all her friends were
gone. Molly pouted kicking a large rock. Her eyes flashed a bright pink as the rock crumbled beneath her feet, bits of rock flying off in all directions. Stupid rocks, stupid New York, stupid machine that brought her here.
She scrubbed at her face, eyes watering. Stupid rock had gotten into her eye. She definitely wasn't crying; Molly was big girl, she was a
superhero. She'd beaten up loads of bad guys,
and she'd punched Wolverine. She wasn't some baby. Just 'cause she was by herself didn't mean she was going to start crying.
She was worried about her friends that was all. After all if she was gone then who was going to teach Klara all about the future. Klara didn't even know what
pizza was yet, and-and Chase was finally starting to act like
Chase again. What if he started acting all grown up again cause he got worried about her, and junk or-or--
Molly sniffled loudly, trying to hold back a sob. She wanted to go home.
